Villajoyosa Spanien bedeutet auf Valencia „fröhliche oder glückliche Stadt“. Diese sehr beliebte Stadt an der Costa Blanca liegt an der Mündung des Flusses Sella und ist der Hauptort der Region La Marina.
Mit seinen ca. 20000 Einwohnern liegt Benidorm südlich von Benidorm, ca. 35 km nördlich von Alicante. Villajoyosa ist eine viel ältere Stadt als Benidorm und die Einheimischen sagen, dass es nah genug an Benidorm ist, aber weit genug entfernt ist, und die Route ist voller Oliven-, Johannisbrot- und Mandelbäume sowie einer Reihe von Palmen, Pinien und Kaktusfeigen.
Historisch gesehen hat sich Villajoyosa hauptsächlich auf den Fischfang verlassen, um sein wirtschaftliches Überleben zu sichern, und der Fischfang bleibt heute ein wichtiger Wirtschaftszweig für die Stadt – der geschäftige Hafen und der geschäftige Fischmarkt am Nachmittag sind wichtige Merkmale von Villajoyosa.

Villajoyosa Spain in Valencian, means ‚joyful or happy town‘. This very popular Costa Blanca City is situated at the mouth of the River Sella and is the main town of the La Marina region. With its about 20000 habitants lies just in the south of Benidorm, about 35 km north of Alicante.
Villajoyosa is a much older town than Benidorm and the locals say that it is close enough to Benidorm whilst being far enough away and the route is filled with olive, carob and almond tree, as well as a number of palms, pines and prickly pears.
Historically Villajoyosa has relied mostly on fishing for its economic survival, and fishing remains today as an important industry for the town – the bustling harbour and busy afternoon fish market are important features of Villajoyosa.
There is a fishing harbour and the local restaurants serve up some of the best seafood on the coast. The beach is second only to Benidorm, but is less crowded. Villajoyosa is the venue for one of the best fiestas in the region. The festival of the ‚Moors and Christians‘ is an annual spectacle of colourful music, dance and costume, with fireworks and sumptuous food served to everyone.
