Elche liegt an der Costa Blanca im Südosten Spaniens.
Elche liegt an der Autobahn A-7 südlich von Alicante. Elche liegt auch nördlich von Murcia und Torrevieja und südlich von Denia und Javea.
Laut der Volkszählung von 2008 hat Elche eine Bevölkerung von etwa 228.300 Einwohnern und ist damit die drittgrößte Stadt der valencianischen Gemeinschaft (nach Valencia und Alicante) und die 20. größte spanische Stadt.
Die Wirtschaft von Elche basiert größtenteils auf der Schuhindustrie mit über 1.000 Schuhfabriken, die eine der wichtigsten Schuhindustrien in Spanien und dem Rest Europas ist, aber die Landwirtschaft (Datteln, Oliven, Getreide und Granatäpfel) sind nicht allzu weit hinten.
Elche Sehenswürdigkeiten Der Palmenhain Elche ist ein Obstgarten mit über 200.000 Palmen, der im Jahr 2000 von der UNESCO zum Weltkulturerbe erklärt wurde.
Es ist der größte Palmenhain in Europa und nur die Araber können sich einer größeren Fläche der Welt rühmen.
Die Burg von Altamira, die sich neben dem Stadtpark befindet (der wiederum Teil des Palmenhains von Elche ist) Sie wurde ursprünglich in der Zeit der Almohaden (12.-13. Jahrhundert) erbaut und später im 15. Jahrhundert mit Backsteinfassaden renoviert.
Eine ehemalige Festung, die 1913 zu einer Textilfabrik wurde, diente während des Spanischen Bürgerkriegs auch als Rathaus und als Gefängnis, während heute das Archäologie- und Geschichtsmuseum von Elche beheimatet ist.
Die Küste von der Stadt hat eine Fläche von 12 km, davon 9 km Strände, die von Dünen und Pinienhainen in einer typisch mediterranen Landschaft gebildet werden.
Das Internationale Unabhängige Filmfestival von Elche ist ein kulturelles Treffen, das seit 1978 in der Stadt stattfindet und bei dem die besten Kurzfilme des Vorjahres aus dem nationalen und internationalen Bereich gezeigt werden.
Elche ist weltweit bekannt dank einer religiösen Wiederaufführung des Lebens der Jungfrau Maria (genannt das Mysterium von Elche) in der Basilika Santa Maria.

Der nächstgelegene Flughafen von der Stadt ist der Flughafen Alicante, der etwa 18 km entfernt liegt.

Elche sights
Elche Palm Grove, is an orchard of over 200,000 palm trees that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2000. It is the largest palm grove in Europe and only the Arabs can boast a larger expanse in the world.
Altamira Castle, located next to the Municipal Park (which, in turn, is a part of the Elche Palm Grove) It was originally built in Almohad times (12th-13th centuries), and was later renovated with brick exterior in the 15th century. A former fortress, in 1913 it became a fabric plant, it has also been used as the town hall and as a prison during the Spanish Civil War, while today is home to the Elche Archaeology and History Museum.
The coastline of the City has an area of 12 km, of which 9 km are beaches formed by dunes and pine groves in a typical Mediterranean landscape.
The International Independent Film Festival of Elche is a cultural meeting held in the city since 1978, where they show the best short films made during the previous year of the national and international spheres.
Elche is recognized world-wide thanks to a religious reinactment of the life of the Virgin Mary ( called the Mystery of Elche ) in the Basilica of Saint Mary.

The weather in Elche is in the main sunny, just like it is everywhere on the Costa Blanca. There are lovely sweltering sunny summers and temperate sunny winters. It does not rain regularly here, but when it does it can show its face in heavy downpours, and the storms here can be utterly magnificent.
The closest airport to Elche is Alicante airport which is located approximately 18 km distance. There are also two other airports in the region, to the north is the Valencia airport which is over two hours drive and to the south is the popular Murcia airport at San Javier. Contact.
